Education in Haiti is extremely expensive. People sell whatever they have for the opportunity to place their child in a school. The truth is, 50% of children in Haiti do not attend elementary school and 80% never get to attend high school. This purely financial- with the daily wage being $2/day in Haiti and the average cost of tuition being $250 and more, people can not get ahead!
Because of this fact, families are often faced with a decision to place their child in an orphanage, which is poor for their development and sense of self, not to mention being separated from their family! The other options for a family hoping for an education are grim, as well.
Konbit Haiti believes that in order for children to thrive, their communities and families need to thrive! We are proud to stand with a number of children in the community who have already faced a number of troubling issues. Each child in school is a child who is out of harm's way and investing in their future. Every cent donated here will go toward helping a child in our programs go to school. We are covering two costs: uniforms and tuition.
$50 pays for a school uniform
$125 pays for half of a school year
$200 pays for a set of school uniforms
$250 pays for tuition for a child for the year
